At Wescon 2000 in Anaheim this week, the latest efforts of the partnership between ADI/American Distributors Inc. and Tidal Engineering will be officially released.

VersaTenn V, the newest environmental chamber controller from Tenney Environmental (Williamsport, PA) will be demonstrated at the Tenney/ADI exhibit. The controller, developed around Tidal’s embedded control framework, and utilizing the new Web Touch™ Remote, offers a host of features previously unavailable on environmental chambers. These include: Ethernet and WEB based remote control and monitoring, data acquisition from the unit-under-test, the familiar Windows™ based touch screen supporting multiple languages and on-line wizards that guide users through detailed procedures.

Almost 10 years after its founding in 1983, ADI/American Distributors Inc. began manufacturing and distributing OEM products developed by Tidal Engineering Corporation, a company with a growing reputation for savvy research and development. These two New Jersey-based organizations recognized the opportunities for a customer oriented, value-added distributor like ADI with extensive engineering resources.

Tidal Engineering and ADI/American Distributors Inc. work in partnership to design, market, and build embedded controllers for the OEM marketplace and to provide complete distributed data acquisition and control systems. Tidal Engineering has made great strides in creating unique products and services, partnering with industry leaders including Think & Do software and Z-World, and complementing ADI's extensive electronic component offerings.

Product Offerings

The first product of this collaboration was the VFX DSP processor board. Since then Tidal Engineering and ADI have introduced many new and innovative products to a broad range of markets. Some of these products include:

• Web Touch™ Remote – A unique complete touch screen solution with World Wide Web access. (Patent pending)
• TECMS Shipboard Environmental Control and Monitoring Systems.
• SBC488A Programmable single board computer with built in C language
  development environment and an IEEE 488 controller.
• SBC485 Data Acquisition controller with RS-232/RS-485.
• MT488 Hand-held IEEE 488 Computer/Controller with a built in C language
  development environment.
• MT488-RC, infrared remote controlled IEEE 488 Computer/Controller which was recognized in Test & Measurement World Magazine’s 1999 Best in Test.
• VFX Voice Effects Processor (ADSP2105 based audio processor board).

Highlights

Early in 2000, Tidal Engineering Corporation, Entelechy Software and ADI American Distributors Inc. formed a strategic alliance called ET3 (Entelechy-Tidal Training Technology)
to provide embedded software training for Windows CE and Linux developers on a standard
X86 platform.

In June 2000, Tidal Engineering received the contract to supply its TECMS Shipboard Environmental Control and Monitoring Equipment on a new Military Sealift Command (MSC) contract awarded to Maersk Lines. The contract will convert two Maersk Lines ships for prepositioning duty. Tidal Engineering has been supplying TECMS systems on MSC ships for 5 years.

The Tidal Engineering designed SBC485 single board computers used on the TECMS systems are specifically made for shipboard data acquisition applications. The system incorporates the robust and powerful NT hosted Think & Do software control system, the Industry Recognized leader for PC based controls.

ADI has branches in Charlotte NC, Hemel Hempstead UK and Boston MA, and representatives in New Jersey, Texas and California. The company was named as Preferred Supplier to organizations like TRW/Lucas Aerospace, GEC Marconi, and Hewlett Packard. ADI has earned recognition as Supplier of the Year from Transistor Devices/Dynaload Division. ADI is also a supplier to other companies where quality and reliability matter, like Smith Industries, Lockheed Martin, Leach Corporation, and Boeing.
